CONSTRUCTION ONGOING AT PRUSCH FARM PARK

The much-awaited "Build Out" of the park began October 2005. This project will cover the realignment of Knox Avenue to fully enclose the park near Story Road, renovation of two parking lots and additional more parking spaces, renovation of the Heirloom Garden, construction of a gazebo, and construction of a new playground. This project is funded by the Measure P Bond, which passed in 2000.

The LeFevre House and Carriage Barn is located behind the Prusch Farmhouse. Construction started in 2003, but halted in 2004 due to problems with the contractor. We are looking forward to finishing the renovation of the LeFevre House and the Carriage Barn this spring for an eventual opening in the summer of 2006.

FOR YOUR SAFETY, PLEASE NOTE ALL CAUTION SIGNS WHILE CONSTRUCTION IS IN PROGRESS.

We will be holding a Grand Opening to celebrate the completion of these much awaited projects in late summer 2006. If you are interested in knowing more about the construction at the park, pleas consult the reader board at the main entrance or call (408) 926-5555 for more information.

YOU CAN'T JUST BUILD A WINDMILL ANYMORE

Friends of Emma Prusch Farm Park are trying to resurrect what was once a common sight throughout Santa Clara Valley: a windmill pumping water from underground wells. The park's non-profit foundation hopes the windmill can tap into a well that could then irrigate crops on the site that once was a working farm. The foundation has already raised and spent $15,000 on materials, but it may be unable to complete the project unless a generous civil engineer or donor steps in.

YOUNG FARMERS VIE FOR HONORS

When his blue Holland Lop buck rabbit got a red ribbon instead of a blue, Alex Clemmons, 13, wanted to know why. Carrying Wild Blue Yonder in his arms, he walked right up to the judge and got the answer. ''He didn't get to have as much bulk as the No. 1,'' said Leslie Tucker of Napa, who spent four and a half hours Tuesday judging rabbits at the Santa Clara County Fair. But she also had some kind words to say.

DIA DEL TAMAL UNE A LA COMUNIDAD

Los tamales son muchas cosas distintas para cada persona. TAMALES UNITE A COMMUNITY

Tamales are many things to many people. For Sandra Escobar, the warm cornmeal treat with a savory filling is not only sustenance for body and soul -- it's also what drew the community to the Story Road Tamale Festival on Saturday at Emma Prusch Park in San Jose's East Side. ''It takes a village to make a good tamale,'' said Escobar, a San Jose Redevelopment Agency project manager.
